Sanofi, PhilCare ink collaboration to promote preventive health at work

Biopharma company Sanofi Philippines and PhilCare, a health maintenance organization (HMO), signed a partnership on Tuesday to promote workplace immunization and a proactive health approach for local workers.

The agreement coincides with the upcoming celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April and World Immunization Week from 24 to 30.

The partnership emphasizes the importance of taking steps to protect safe and healthy workplaces in workplaces and communities.

With a labor force participation rate of 63.8%, or people aged 15 and above, that translates to 52.09 million as of February, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Vaccine-preventable diseases, such as the flu, are a common factor affecting labor productivity and economic growth, the joint statement said.

“As the country’s workforce continues to grow, maintaining the health of workers is critical to sustaining productivity and economic growth,” said Vanessa Yabut-Gomez, head of policy for Sanofi Philippines in a statement.

“Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to support the health of Filipino workers.”

Flu season in the Philippines tends to peak from June to November. Despite this time of year, experts note that year-round protection remains important for working adults.

Unvaccinated adults, especially those with pre-existing conditions, are more susceptible to the negative effects of the flu.

The World Health Organization emphasizes the important role of vaccines in controlling disease outbreaks.

However, immunization of adults remains neglected due to major barriers, including high cost, limited access to vaccines, and general lack of knowledge.

Through the partnership between Sanofi Philippines and PhilCare, these barriers are being addressed by expanding the reach of corporate members and strengthening vaccination awareness.

For PhilCare, the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to deliver comprehensive healthcare services to Filipinos nationwide.

“By including critical vaccination options, such as flu shots, in our comprehensive array of health care services, we aim to address the gaps in senior care,” said Jaeger L. Tanco, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of PhilCare in a statement. – Edg Adrian A. Eva
