When the Los Angeles Rams drafted quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday, head coach Sean McVay didn’t look happy, and he admitted as much on Friday.

McVay, while recalling the second day of the Rams’ draft, opened his press conference by acknowledging his behavior after Simpson was selected.

“I get my behavior last night, but we’re happy about it. There are different things. I always want to remember how things turn out and things like that. I was very happy last night and I’m very happy today. We couldn’t be more happy that we continue to lead together, but all the decisions we make are together and in cooperation, “said McVay.

“Any questions or disagreements based on my behavior or my behavior last night, I wanted to get it out of the way. This is my friend right here.,” McVay said with a smile as he reached out to general manager Les Snead.

“That was important to me because I got a lot of texts. That was not the way I intended to go out, but sometimes I get angry.”

The reporter then asked the 40-year-old coach why he was angry.

“Well, there were other things that didn’t have to do with that, which is normal life,” McVay said.

“The main thing was, I couldn’t be more happy to be able to add him, but also to understand how much I love Matthew Stafford, how he wants to respect and how things can be interpreted. The behavior would not be stoic in nature because he is happy, but it is not – it is Matthew’s football team.”

Stafford, in his 17th season, won his first MVP last year with the Rams. However, despite the success, Stafford has reportedly been considering retirement after each season for the past few seasons.

The 38-year-old announced that he will return for another season while concluding his MVP speech with the news. With Stafford’s future seemingly uncertain after next season, the Rams got to skip their heir apparent.

McVay said he’s excited for Simpson to study at Stafford.

“I’m happy to be able to add Ty. What a blessing it is for him to be able to learn from Matthew and to be able to come to this space and place. Whenever that time comes for him to have the opportunity to be a follower of Matthew it will be according to Matthew’s goal. I think that’s what was really important. I didn’t want that to be misunderstood and not be happy,” McVakalise said.

“Les and his team really liked him. As soon as we started really studying him, there was a body of work, like I talked about, that was a good, fun experiment. A lot of ideas that we were going to make work. The guy is a football player and he plays with time and rhythm. You can tell he’s a coach’s son by using one. His journey is a joy.”

If Simpson one day becomes the quarterback that Stafford is, McVay won’t feel so upset all the time.
