Ana Kasparian says the AOC has shown an ‘appalling level of weakness’ in Israel

Ana Kasparian said on Friday’s episode of “The Young Turks” that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) showed “a terrible level of weakness” in previous votes related to Israel, following a public exchange between the two on social media.

“I’m sick of the AOC being incredibly weak on things it shouldn’t be weak on,” Kasparian said. “Especially at a time when many Democratic voters are against what Israel is doing.”

Kasparian’s comments came in a segment where he went through a recent interview with Ocasio-Cortez on X, after he responded critically to a conference post about a botched plot targeting Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani.

Kasparian said his response to Ocasio-Cortez was deliberately sharp and focused on frustration with what he described as inconsistent foreign policy votes.

“You have to vote to send Israel more money for weapons,” Kasparian said, describing his response as ironic. “Obviously I’m being sarcastic there.”

The segment then shifted to Ocasio-Cortez’s past voting record, which Kasparian argued shows a pattern of backing down from strong opposition under pressure.

“No one can force you to change your vote,” Kasparian said. “You changed your vote because you had a little pressure and you didn’t like the pressure.”

Kasparian also pointed to a recent vote in which Ocasio-Cortez opposed an amendment to cut off military aid to Israel, saying even defense funding should not be supported.

“He voted against the amendment to cut off military aid to Israel,” Kasparian said. “I don’t care. Money happens.”

Kasparian focused his criticism on what he described as a failure to follow through on expectations that helped elect Ocasio-Cortez.

“The whole reason he was elected in the first place was to transform the Democratic Party,” Kasparian said. “That’s the opposite of what you were chosen to do.”

He compared Ocasio-Cortez’s public messages to his voting decisions in Congress.

“I like your fiery speeches. They’re good. They don’t do anything,” said Kasparian.

“When push comes to shove and you get a chance to show us that you’re going to do something with your vote, at the very least, you’re cheating.”

Kasparian concluded by insisting that his criticism was based on embarrassment rather than opposition, while maintaining that Ocasio-Cortez’s voting record speaks for itself.

“That was a big red flag,” he said. “A devastating sign of weakness.”
