The wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has reportedly celebrated terrorists in a series of social media posts as a teenager and young adult as an investigation into her online history continues.
In September 2017, Rama Duwaji posted a photo on his Tumblr account of Leila Khaled, a longtime leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who participated in two hijackings in 1969 and 1970.
“If I do good for myself, I will gladly accept death,” the text says.

Khaled is the first woman to hijack a plane and is respected by terrorists for her role in the crime.
He did most of his writing in his early 20s, the Washington Free Beacon reported, noting that Duwaji, now 28, spent his childhood in New Jersey before moving with his family to Dubai.
In March 2015, at the age of 17, Duwaji retweeted on International Women’s Day praising terrorist Shadia Abu Ghazaleh. The photo in the post shows Ghazaleh, who took part in the Israeli bus bombing and led several other terrorist attacks.
The photo showed him posing with a gun. He was killed in 1968 when a bomb he was making in his house accidentally exploded. The device that killed him is suspected to have been intended to blow up a building in Tel Aviv.
Another post features a person wearing a keffiyeh while sewing a flag.
“Images: ‘A Palestinian protester sews a Palestine Liberation Organization flag before a demonstration during the first Intifada’, February, 1988,” the caption said.
Another showed a Bangladeshi stamp that said, “We salute the heroes who fought for the freedom of Palestine.”
A July 2015 post criticized US military presence abroad.
“*taps mic* American soldiers fighting imperialist wars have no courage and are not fighting for anyone’s freedom,” the post said. “They are mercilessly slaughtering third world citizens and fighting to preserve American sovereignty. That’s all, thank you! *drops mic*”

Later that year, Duwaji retweeted the Tumblr user.
“You can’t blame Muslims for terrorism because they didn’t build, finance and train Al-Qaeda,” the user wrote. “White people did that.”
In another 2015 post, he also posted criticism of Snapchat for adding Tel Aviv to its live story feature.
“But really, @Snapchat let me down. F*** #TelAviv. It shouldn’t exist in the first place. They are residents. You celebrate them,” Duwaji retweeted the post.
“And finally. Hello @Snapchat, as you give Israelis a chance to celebrate their atrocities, you support a deadly situation. Bye. #TelAviv.”
Duwaji, who was born in Houston and calls himself Syrian, married Mamdani in 2025,. He attracted national attention after revelations that he liked several posts shortly after the Oct. 7 which criticized Israel.

On the day of October 7, 2023, the attack on Israel by Hamas, Duwaji liked a post on Instagram showing photos of participants who broadcast live images of the attack, which left 1,200 Israelis dead, including young children.
He also allegedly liked an Instagram post from February 2024 that claimed the New York Times investigation into sexual violence during the October 7 attack was “fabricated,”
