Russian man gets 4 years in prison for assault that Barron Trump testified to – National

A Russian man was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday for assaulting a woman in London in an incident that was seen on a video call and reported to the police by the son of American President Donald Trump, Barron.
Matvei Rumiantsev, 23, was convicted by a judge on January 28 of assault causing injury but was acquitted of rape and strangulation. He was also convicted of perverting the course of justice because he sent the woman a letter from prison asking her to retract her allegations, the Associated Press reported.
During his sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London, Judge Joel Bennathan said Rumiantsev was “absolutely unrepentant” and a “jealous man.”

“Your lack of understanding and compassion was evident in the case,” said the judge. “He continues to try to blame the complainant for everything that happened.”
At the time of the attack, Trump, 20, was on a FaceTime video call with a woman, who has a right to anonymity under UK law, when she said she saw a man punch her repeatedly, Snaresbrook Crown Court in London was told in January.

Rumiantsev denied the allegations and told the court that he got angry when he accused the woman of calling Trump a “lover”.
A transcript of the emergency call released by the Crown Prosecution Service revealed Trump’s call to emergency services about the alleged assault.
“I’m calling from the US, I just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s being beaten,” Trump said in a statement released by prosecutors.
“This was happening about eight minutes ago,” he continued. “I just figured out how to call someone. It’s a real emergency.”
When the operator asked Trump how he saw the attack, he said: “Uh, I got a call from him and the guy hitting him.
The driver asked: “How do you know him?”
“I don’t think these details matter, he’s being beaten, but it’s okay, I met him on social media. I don’t think that’s important,” he said.
The user asked Trump to “stop being rude” and “actually answer my questions.”
“If you want to help that person, you will answer my questions clearly and accurately,” said the manager.
After telling the participant that he did not know the name of the man who allegedly hit the woman, Trump said, “I’m sorry for being rude.”
Police went to the address and arrested Rumiantsev, a receptionist who lived in London.
Rumiantsev revealed that he was jealous of Trump but also treated him badly because he thought his girlfriend was leading him.
During the trial, defense attorney Sasha Wass said Trump did not know the woman had a boyfriend and asked how much he could see in five or seven minutes of video. He said the woman abused her relationship with Trump to make her boyfriend jealous in a “drama-filled relationship.”
Trump did not testify in the case but the judge praised him for contacting the police and helping to prevent the worst. He said the victim was afraid that he would be killed.
“Mr. Trump rightly and responsibly, despite being in the United States, made sure that the emergency services here were called, and he told them what he saw,” he said.
The woman also told the court that Trump’s call to the police helped stop Rumiantsev from killing her.
“He helped save my life. That phone call was like a sign from God at that time,” he said, according to court documents.
