JONATHAN TULEY: Trump fires Bondi as Democrats prepare new probe, political retaliation

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

There’s an old joke that scientists switch from lab rats to lawyers because you don’t get along with lawyers. President Donald Trump has shown a similar tendency to avoid sticking with private or government counsel. Attorney General Pam Bondi is the latest in a long line of attorneys fired by the president who famously headlined “He’s fired.”

There is no evidence of bad blood between President Trump and Bondi. The attorney general has come under fire for his loyalty to the president and has been at his side through some of the toughest times, from impeachment to criminal defense. As his “disciples” learn, this is not personal. It’s a business.

Jeff Sessions. Rex Tillerson. Bill Barr. Mark Esper. Kristi Noem. Trump’s Cabinet picks are better known for shelving than last.

Indeed, being a cabinet member in the Trump administration is about as secure as being the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.

Trump has always viewed layoffs as a way to encourage higher levels of employment.

There is a reason why Trump may have wanted to move now on changing attorneys general. There are growing predictions that the Democrats will lose the House and now they may lose the Senate.

Democrats are running on promises to expose a slew of investigations and impeachment proceedings, targeting not only President Trump but anyone who supports him.

Figures such as Susan Rice, a senior policy adviser to both Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, have promised “retaliation” against all those who pushed Democrats into power and warned that “it will not end well for them.”

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., has promised that, as soon as they regain power, they will start throwing Trump’s people in jail when they retake Congress.

Democratic strategist James Carville has previously threatened that “collaborators” could be treated in the same way they were treated after World War II.

5 PAYING TIMES AS BONDI CONNECTS WITH DEMOCRACY IN BURNING HOUSES

Trump’s ability to confirm his successor will be a major challenge as he approaches the midterm elections.

Trump has to decide who will be the best hand at the wheel in those hot waters ahead.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has a street book that Trump appreciates. A successful prosecutor and former prosecutor, Blanche is not flamboyant and aloof. He is a deadly judge who can drain you like a fish without breaking a sweat. He has been by the president’s side in and out of court. Although he will be a lightning rod for Democrats who have attacked him for his role in the release of the Epstein files, his resilience in the face of a hostile press likely appealed to the president.

Blanche provides a seamless transition for the department. Of course he has to walk down the aisle to take over from Bondi.

Another name reportedly being considered by EPA Director Lee Zeldin, may be the easiest to confirm and the most popular with members of Congress. Zeldin reformed the EPA in a short period of time, including removing barriers to increasing energy production. Almost elected governor of New York, Zeldin has appealed to Washington as someone who cut his teeth in this city.

Other candidates include attorneys general, and wild cards like US attorney Jeanine Pirro, a former judge with a strong reputation in Washington, DC. It’s a deep bench.

There will be no shortage of job applicants. The attorney general’s office in the Trump administration has everything one could want in Washington. Everything, that is, except job security.
