Converge launches 12-MW data center in Pampanga

Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. launched its P5-billion 12-megawatt data center in Angeles, Pampanga which further increases data center capacity while helping to position the country as a data center.
“Amidst the ongoing digital transformation, our capabilities must keep pace with emerging technologies. We are focused on building world-class, future-ready facilities to become the country’s leading digital service provider,” said Converge ICT CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy during the opening of the company’s data center on Friday.
In total, Converge has a total data center capacity of about 20-MW in total, including its Caloocan, Pasig, and Pampanga locations, said Mr. Uy.
The company’s data center in Angeles may reach 36 MW, James Tristan M. Mendoza, CEO of Converge Studios told reporters on the sidelines of the event, adding that the center has artificial intelligence (AI) ready to support the growing demand for content and cloud services.
He said the listed fiber broadband provider and technology provider is looking to continue expanding its data centers, with several data centers in the pipeline.
In addition, Converge said it expects to grow in its large enterprise and public sector units by introducing more cloud solutions and managed services.
“You can’t get into AI, cloud, or advanced technology solutions without a strong digital backbone in place. This is a full-stack digital infrastructure that we’ve built. This is an infrastructure designed for full coverage, reliability, and scale,” said Mr. Uy.
Converge is also strengthening its network as it plans to integrate into its operations the Bifrost optical link and the intra-Asia SEA-H2X cable system.
The Bifrost cable system covers 20,000 kilometers and is designed to support AI workloads, cloud platforms, and real-time digital services.
Converge will handle the installation of the Bifrost cable system in the Philippines, following the cable installation in Davao.
The Bifrost Cable System connects Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United States. Bifrost is located in Singapore, Guam, and California, with branch units that extend connections to Jakarta, the US, and the Philippines, allowing for strong traffic flow and strong regional connectivity.
SEA-H2X is expected to increase international bandwidth and strengthen undersea fiber connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
The cable system is designed for 160 terabits per second capacity and has six access points throughout Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and Thailand.
The two submarine fiber networks, with their landing stations in Davao and La Union will be ready for operation, Converge said, adding that this will give the company high capacity and direct access to important international markets.
In local currency on Friday, the company’s shares closed 0.75% lower at P13.24 each. – Ashley Erika O. Jose
