eGovPH app is back online; The DICT issues a law on security breaches

The eGovPH Super App has been recalled following reports of service disruptions caused by increased user activity, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) said on Friday.
DICT Secretary for e-Government David L. Almirol Jr. clarified that the temporary downtime was not caused by a security incident but by a large influx of simultaneous transactions on the platform.
“Our servers have been overwhelmed by the increased use of eGov, especially following the introduction of new features,” Mr Almirol said in a statement. He mentioned that the app currently has about 40 million users, which contributes to the high demand.
Over the past few days, users have reported persistent technical issues, including difficulty logging in and not being able to access basic services. The DICT noted that the disruption lasted for a few hours over two days.
Following the reports, DICT announced on April 13 that the application will be modified and updated with features, advising the public to access the platform later. Immediate steps were also taken to address operational limitations.
Moving forward, Mr. Almirol said DICT plans to increase its server capacity to prevent future disruptions.
The agency aims to achieve this by coordinating with key government stakeholders, including Malacañang, to ensure a strong infrastructure that can handle high usage as more services are integrated into the platform. – Edg Adrian A. Eva
