Musician David Burke, known as D4vd, was arrested Thursday in connection with the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, 14, whose body was found in September 2025 in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla in Los Angeles.

“Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division arrested David Burke, 21, who lives in Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas,” the LAPD said in a social media post. “Burke is being held without bail.”

In another episode, police said, “The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday for review.”

As of Thursday, authorities had not publicly identified D4vd as a suspect in the case, although in February he was the subject of a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation into Hernandez’s death.

The Associated Press reported in February that Hernandez’s body was found decomposed in an abandoned Tesla registered to D4vd and driven out of the Hollywood Hills, citing court documents.

Prosecutors described the Houston-born singer as the target of a grand jury investigation that was unsealed on Jan. 15, seeking testimony from three of his relatives.

The Associated Press obtained the previously sealed documents, which were made public after the singer’s mother, father and brother filed a subpoena in Texas.

The documents state: “The target may be involved in the commission of the following criminal offenses against the laws of the State of California, including: One count of Murder.”

Hernandez’s body was found on September 8, a day after her 15th birthday. She was reported missing in 2024 as a 13-year-old seventh grader in her hometown of Lake Elsinore, about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Authorities say she was 14 years old when she was killed, according to court documents.

The subpoena says investigators searching the 2023 Tesla Model Y at the tow truck found a cadaver bag “covered in insects and a strong odor of decay.”

“Detectives unzipped part of the bag and found a decomposed head and body,” the subpoena said. Investigators from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.

“When we removed the cadaver bag from the warehouse, it was discovered that the arms and legs had been removed from the body,” the document said. “A second black bag was found under the cadaver bag. When we opened the second bag, we found scattered body parts.”

The singer was on tour in America at the time and continued to perform after the body was found. He later canceled the remaining shows, as well as a planned European tour, as reports linking him to the case gained widespread attention.
