Australian actress Ruby Rose has alleged in an online blog post on Sunday night that American singer Katy Perry sexually assaulted her in a nightclub 20 years ago.
I Orange is the New Black the star took to Instagram’s Threads app, writing that the alleged incident took place at the Spice Market Night Club in Melbourne, “almost twenty years ago.” Rose made the allegations when she commented in response to a text from Complex Music about Perry’s reaction to Canadian singer Justin Bieber headlining Coachella that night.
“Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks,” he wrote.
A representative for Perry has denied the allegations.
“The allegations being spread on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not just lies; they are dangerous, reckless lies,” they told CBC News in a statement.
“Ms. Rose has a documented history of making serious allegations against the public on social media against different people, allegations that have been denied many times by those named.”
CBC News has reached out to Rose’s representatives for comment but has not yet heard back.
Rose shared the details in a series of posts
In a series of documents, Rose, 40, said the incident he was accused of happened in his early 20s. She wrote that Perry “saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid him and bend over, pulled her underwear aside and rubbed her disgusting private on my face until my eyes opened and I projectile vomited on her.”
Rose added in another comment that she had previously “told this story publicly but changed it to a ‘drunk little story’ because I didn’t know how to handle another one. She alleged that Perry later agreed to help Rose get her US visa, so she chose to keep it private.”
He said it took him almost two decades to share these allegations, and that he was “very grateful that he took the time to get my voice.”
The actor initially said he was not interested in filing a police report, explaining, “You don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get your poor body out of your body before it gives you cancer.”
But Rose then wrote in Threads that she “just left the police station” and would elaborate on the reporting process “once I get my energy back.”
Perry was recently seen attending the Coachella music event in California with her partner, former prime minister Justin Trudeau.
In a post on Instagram, the pop star included several photos of the couple and a video in response to Bieber’s article, in which he went through several of his old YouTube videos and sang along with his little one.
“Thank God you have them [YouTube] Premium. I don’t want to see ads,” he says in the video, which was highlighted in a post that Rose originally responded to.
