Augusta National Golf Club, home of the prestigious Masters Tournament, has spent years and more than $200 million expanding its location in Augusta, Georgia. The group is buying hundreds of acres of land for future development.
But one property, long considered a warehouse, remains firmly in the hands of the family of its original owners.
The home is at 1112 Stanley Rd. it was built in 1959 by Herman and Elizabeth Thacker, and it still stands just across from Gate 6-A.

It’s a modest, 1,900-square-foot three-bedroom house, but its story has become local legend.
Over the past decade, nearly all of the land around it has been purchased and cleared, as Augusta National Golf Club has spent more than $40 million to convert the area into parking and infrastructure for tournament sponsors. The club has spent more than $280 million on acquisitions over the past 25 years, according to Golf.com.

Many of those homeowners became millionaires overnight.
The Thackers chose a different approach. Despite multiple offers of seven figures, they refused to sell.
“Money isn’t everything,” Herman Thacker told NJ.com in a 2016 interview.

Herman Thacker died in 2019 at the age of 86. His wife, Elizabeth, lived in this home many years later, she was one of the last – and best known – to take part against the expansion of the group.

Since last year’s Masters, the Thacker family has suffered a major loss: Elizabeth Thacker died in July at the age of 93.
Her daughter, Robin Thacker Rinder, confirmed to FOX Business that while her mother is away, the home remains in the family.

Rinder says that he now lives in the house, “takes good care of it,” and confirmed that the property has not changed hands. Notably, he says Augusta National never talked to the Thacker children about any new offers since the family had refused to sell.

Augusta National did not respond to multiple requests for comment from FOX Business.
The property is estimated to be worth about $330,000, but that’s a fraction of what Augusta National has paid nearby homeowners over the years.

The Thackers previously sold another property they owned next door to the club for $1.2 million, but they wanted to live out their lives at 1112 Stanley Rd., where they have raised two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The home remains, at least for now, not for sale. Still, Rinder left the door slightly open when asked if that might change.
“If the price is right,” he said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, one of the most popular golf courses continues.
