Meta cuts through hundreds of jobs, the layoffs are spread across key groups: reports

Meta is cutting hundreds of jobs Wednesday, the company confirmed to FOX Business.

A spokesperson said the layoffs are part of ongoing restructuring efforts, noting that the tech giant is constantly adjusting its workforce to better align with its goals. The company is also working to place certain employees involved in other roles where possible.

“Teams across Meta are constantly reorganizing or making changes to ensure they are in the best position to achieve their goals,” the spokesperson said. “Where possible, we find other opportunities for employees whose positions may have been affected.”

The layoffs are expected to affect several key areas, including Reality Labs, recruitment and social media teams, according to The Information.

The move comes as Meta faces financial pressures associated with its aggressive investments artificial intelligence infrastructure, reports Reuters.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that the tech giant was planning layoffs that could affect 20% or more of its workforce as it looks to cut costs and improve efficiency with AI-driven tools.

Meta had about 79,000 employees as of Dec. 31, according to Reuters.

The layoffs also come amid legal challenges for the company.

A Los Angeles jury On Wednesday, they found Meta and Google guilty in a highly-anticipated lawsuit alleging their platforms were designed to lure young users, shelling out $3 billion.
