A representative of Spirit Airlines says that fuel prices have left no chance of closure

A lawyer for Aviation he said on Tuesday that rising jet fuel prices had left the company with “no option” for bankruptcy and had caused it to suspend operations last weekend, while it sought approval to continue selling assets and pay bonuses to remaining workers.
Marshall Huebner, an attorney representing the airline, said bankruptcy The court hearing is that Spirit learned last Thursday that a proposed $500 million bailout from the Trump administration will not proceed due to objections from some of the airline’s creditors.
Huebner apologized to customers and the American public on behalf of the airline and said Spirit continued to operate on Friday, carrying 50,000 passengers, as it sought to end operations before making the news public.
Earlier this year, Spirit announced a plan to exit bankruptcy for the second time, but the plan’s implications for the airline’s costs were heightened by the outbreak of the Iran war, which sent oil prices soaring and ultimately pushed jet fuel prices beyond control.

Spirit had been struggling to turn a profit before the fuel shock and has faced $100 million in fuel costs since March 1. Huebner noted that Spirit faced hundreds of millions of dollars in higher fuel costs during the year if it were to continue operating.
The company is seeking court approval to pay $10.7 million employee retention bonuses who remained with the Spirit when it finished its work.
Average bonuses are $76,000 per participant and the proposal will see the top three executives pay more, although that amount has not been disclosed. The US Trustee, which is Department of Justice bankruptcy watchdog, raised concerns about bonuses.

Spirit also expressed concern that it does not have the money to run the program at the auction of its planeengines and other equipment – so it is seeking court approval to immediately sell or abandon the equipment to allow creditors to foreclose.
The airline halted operations on Saturday, canceling all flights as it began winding down operations “immediately.”

The company said customers who booked flights directly with Spirit were theirs credit or debit card they will be automatically refunded to their original payment method.
Most of those returns were processed as of Saturday evening, although some may take longer to process and appear customer accounts.
Travelers who purchased tickets through third-party vendors, such as travel agencies, will have to reach out to those providers to request a refund, according to the airline.
