A 4.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Eastern Samar

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 was reported in Eastern Samar, which was felt in ten places, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Wednesday.
The earthquake occurred at 6:58 a.m., and its epicenter is on the coast, 21 kilometers north of San Policarpo, Eastern Samar, said a PHIVOLCS report.
It was of tectonic origin and centered at a depth of 12 kilometers.
Intensity III was reported in Can-avid, Arteche, Dolores, Oras, San Julian, Taft, and Borongan City in Eastern Samar.
It was also heard in Lapinig, Gamay, Pambujan, Palapag, Laoang, Mondaragon, and Mapanas in Northern Samar.
Intensity II was reported in Maydolong, Hernani, and Llorente in Eastern Samar, and in Bobon and Catarman, Northern Samar.
It was also heard in San Jorge, Gandara, and Catbalogan City in Samar.
Regarding the intensity of the instruments, PHIVOLCS said Intensity III was reported in Can-avid, Eastern Samar, and Palapag, Northern Samar.
Intensity II was recorded in Gandara, Samar, while Intensity I was reported in Abuyog, Alangalang, Carigara, and Dulag, Leyte.
PHIVOLCS said no damage was reported. The aftershocks are unexpected. – Edg Adrian A. Eva
