Melania Trump and Queen Camilla hosted students for a historic VR event

First lady Melania Trump and Queen Camilla met Tuesday at the White House to express a shared commitment to improving children’s well-being.

The two married women joined students in technology-related activities and history at the White House Tennis Pavilion this afternoon.

The Queen and King of the UK are in the US for a four-day visit full of various events and private meetings, including the president, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and others. Tuesday’s event underscored the shared importance of strengthening children’s development, with Trump’s “Be Best” and “Fostering the Future” initiatives and Camilla’s longtime focus on literacy driving the effort.

Camilla and the first lady joined district students, including several state champions from the Presidential AI Challenge, to explore and use virtual reality (VR) headsets to learn about American and United Kingdom history.

Trump wore a white silk and fur jacket and skirt from the Ralph Lauren Collection, according to pool reports. She also wore an Eric Javits hat with snakeskin pumps by Manolo Blahnik.

The VR glasses gave students the opportunity to view famous landmarks in the UK, such as Snowdonia, the Giant’s Causeway, Stonehenge, and the outside of Buckingham Palace. Students also examined artifacts using Meta mirrors provided by the White House Collection and the National Archives and Records Administration to learn more about the special relationship between the two countries.

There was a statue of the first US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, President John Adams, a bronze of Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Staffordshire pottery depicting pre-Atlantic cultural exchanges.

The first lady has emphasized helping children engage with emerging technologies, using her platform to promote intelligence education.

In March, he convened representatives from 45 countries for the first global “Fostering the Future Together” conference, where leaders outlined strategies to increase children’s access to technology and education.

He also secured a $25 million investment in foster care youth to be included in the president’s budget for fiscal year 2026.

Camilla’s work focuses on improving children’s literacy, supporting programs that increase access to books, promoting literacy, and engaging directly with students through school-based programs.

During the event, the first lady was asked by members of the media how she was doing following the assassination attempt on her husband on Saturday night during the Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the White House.

“Very well,” replied the first lady.

While Trump and Camilla spent time with the children, Trump and Charles held a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office.

“It was a really good meeting, and he’s a wonderful person, and they’re wonderful people. It’s a real honor,” Trump told reporters after concluding.

The Trumps escorted Charles and Camilla in their car as the monarchs left the US Capitol. Charles is expected to give a speech to Congress on Tuesday afternoon.

The monarchs will then return to the White House to tour the residence and view historical documents later this evening before the state dinner.
