Derick Hall’s Seahawks team up with Huggies after NICU survival

Seattle Seahawks quarterback and recent Super Bowl hero Derick Hall and his mother, Stacy Gooden-Crandle, have partnered with classic American diaper brand Huggies to share Hall’s story of life as an infant.

Hall and Gooden-Crandle star in the brand’s “Natural Born Fighters” commercial, which depicts Hall’s remarkable journey from a child with a 1% chance of survival to a Super Bowl champion. The campaign celebrates Hall and other historical figures who were born in the intensive care unit (NICU) with little chance of survival after being born prematurely, including Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton.

Hall had a 1% chance of survival when she was born four months premature at just 23 weeks pregnant, weighing just two pounds, nine ounces. He was born without a heartbeat, suffering from bleeding in the brain.

“I’m not born … I breathe,” he told Fox News Digital. “I was born dead.

Gooden-Crandle told Fox News Digital that those early days of her son’s life were full of uncertainty and fear.

“It’s emotional, a lot of uncertainty, fear,” she said of her feelings in the days following her son’s premature birth. “But… those were not the feelings I felt when Derick was born. I just trusted that God would fix everything.”
